I never thought I would be the type of person to travel alone; it sounded scary to not only be traveling alone, but to be a woman traveling alone! However, after putting my fear aside and actually going about doing it, I believe traveling solo is definitely worth doing at least once in one’s lifetime. Here’s are two lists outlining the advantages and disadvantages of traveling solo, all of which I have experienced.
Traveling solo
More inclined to meet new people
Do what you want to do
Independence (you’re solely responsible for the decision-making)
No one to share the experience with
Plenty of time for self-reflection
No one to vent to when things get tough
Might get harassed
Might have to pay more money for hotel and activities
Travel with a group
More likely to stick with group
Do what everyone agrees to do
Dependence (not always responsible for the itinerary)
Lots of people to share the experience with
Maybe not a whole lot of time to self-reflect
People to act as a support system
Security
Split the costs of everything
